Lino print featuring the greenhouse at Erith’s Old Library. The greenhouse is modelled on the travelling library van that was commissioned in the 1930s by the library’s second Librarian – Florence Young. It was the second library van in the UK, and first ever custom-built library van, made with a timber frame over a chassis of a lorry. The original still exists and is part of the Science Museum’s collection. The greenhouse was built as part of The Exchange’s garden scheme, led by award-winning garden designer Sarah Price with the ironwork delivered by Surrey Ironcraft. It is now home to a pelargonium collection grown by local residents, supported by The Exchange’s Head Gardener.
