“Erith Gold” was the result of a collaboration with ceramicist Natalia Kasprzycka to create tiles for Erith’s Old Library. Natalia's approach was to experiment with what we could do with mud taken from the Thames. Alongside The Exchange's Ceramic Makers, Natalia put this local material through the kiln at different temperatures to see how it would behave. Eventually, the team created a glaze made from this organic material, that we call "Erith Gold", to create beautiful green/gold coloured tiles which are now installed at the historic building, and are available to commission.
